Gel and acrygel are two ways of strengthening or lengthening the nail with a material that cures under an LED lamp. Gel is more fluid and gives a glossy, natural finish on longer nails; acrygel, a hybrid of gel and acrylic, is denser and very hard-wearing, ideal for a short nail that must not break. We sometimes combine the two for a long nail that needs to go the distance.
At Izzy Studio every set starts with meticulous preparation of the natural nail and ends with the finish of your choice: solid colour, French, baby boomer (a soft pink-to-white gradient) or nail design. Allow 90 to 120 minutes depending on length. Everything takes place at Izzy Studio on Route des Creux in Verbier.
Who is it for?
For anyone with soft or brittle nails who finally wants to grow them, for those who want a perfect manicure for a month without touch-ups, or for an occasion: a wedding, a holiday, a season in Verbier. If you would rather keep your natural nails with a simple colour, gel polish is the lighter option. Finishes work for hands that do manual work as well as for those who want something striking.
How the treatment goes
- Welcome and consultation Together we settle on length, shape (square, almond, coffin, oval) and finish. If you are already wearing gel, removal comes first.
- Preparation Cuticles pushed back, the nail lightly buffed and degreased, then a primer is applied. This stage decides how long the set lasts: we never cut it short.
- Building For long nails, a form or a tip acts as a guide. The gel or acrygel is sculpted layer by layer and cured under the lamp at each stage, with extra strength at the stress point in the centre of the nail.
- Finish and design The nail is filed to refine the shape, then comes the colour, baby boomer or nail design you chose, sealed with a glossy or matte top coat.
- Back to calm Cuticle oil to finish, and a few tips: no using nails as tools, and an infill or removal appointment in three to four weeks.

Good to know
Come with clean nails and no hand cream. Allow 90 minutes for short nails, 120 for long. Removal (30 minutes, CHF 35) is best done at the Studio so the natural nail is not damaged. A set also makes a lovely gift card. We do not apply gel to an infected, lifting or badly damaged nail; we will suggest natural nail care in the meantime.
Frequently asked questions
Acrygel is the toughest and works very well on short nails or hands that work hard. Gel gives a finer, glossier finish that is popular on long nails. For a long nail that has to last, the combined acrygel and gel set (CHF 160) brings the two advantages together.
A soft gradient from pink to white, inspired by the French manicure but without the sharp line, giving a luminous, natural-looking nail. Like nail design, it is offered as a CHF 10 supplement on any full set.
Not when it is applied and, above all, removed properly. Nails get damaged when gel is peeled off or filed too hard at home. Our 30-minute removal dissolves or files the material gently, then nourishes the nail.
