Usui Reiki is a Japanese energy practice, handed down since the early twentieth century, based on the laying on of hands. For one hour you lie fully clothed on the table while the practitioner rests her hands on different areas of the body, or holds them a few centimetres above. There is no pressure and no manipulation: the session feels like a deep pause, often with a sense of warmth or gentle tingling.
At Izzy, Reiki is offered as a complementary well-being practice, never as a substitute for medical care. It may help to quieten the mind, improve sleep and restore a steadier sense of energy, especially during periods of tiredness or overload. Sessions take place at Izzy Spa or at Izzy Studio, both in Verbier.
Who is it for?
Reiki suits anyone looking for a moment of stillness without firm touch: people who find massage intimidating, those under heavy stress, light sleepers, or anyone going through a period of change. It pairs well with a classic massage or a sound bath. Children respond to it readily and enjoy the shorter 30-minute format. Animals receive Reiki at the Studio or, more often, at a distance in their own familiar surroundings.
How the treatment goes
- Welcome and consultation We take a few minutes to talk about how you are feeling today, what brings you in and what you hope to take away. You keep your clothes on; only shoes and jewellery come off.
- Settling in You lie on your back, under a blanket if you wish, in a quiet treatment room with soft lighting. A few slow breaths are all it takes to begin to settle.
- Laying on of hands The practitioner works through a sequence of positions from head to feet, holding each one for several minutes. You may feel warmth, a sudden release, or simply drift off: all of it is fine.
- Back to calm The session ends gently. We give you time to come back, then talk briefly about what you noticed. A glass of water, a few quiet minutes, and you step back out into Verbier.

Reiki is practised fully clothed, so there is nothing to prepare. For a distance session we agree a time and you settle comfortably at home; for animal Reiki, let us know the species when booking. A session also makes a thoughtful gift card. Reiki does not replace medical care. If you are being treated for a health condition, carry on as normal and keep your doctor informed.
