Manual lymphatic drainage is the gentlest of our massages. It does not target the muscle but the lymph, the fluid that flows just beneath the skin and carries away the body's waste. The hands apply very light pressure in circular, pumping movements, always following the direction of flow, from the extremities towards the lymph nodes of the neck, armpits and groin.

The slow, repetitive rhythm has an almost immediate calming effect on the nervous system; many guests fall asleep. The legs feel lighter by the end of the session. We offer it at Izzy Spa and at Izzy Studio, at both of our Verbier addresses.

Who is it for?

For heavy legs after a long drive or flight, for ankles that swell in the heat or at altitude, for the morning after a rich meal. For anyone supporting a change of diet or a return to exercise. For those who need absolute gentleness after a period of stress or fatigue. At the Studio, drainage is also at the heart of our Epsom salt body wraps.

How the treatment goes

  1. Welcome and consultation We review your circulation, any swelling and your general health. Drainage has a few specific contraindications, which we go through together.
  2. Opening the lymph nodes The treatment begins with gentle pressure on the nodes of the neck, armpits and groin. This is the key to drainage: open the exits before moving fluid towards them.
  3. Legs and abdomen The legs receive the longest part of the session: circular, pumping strokes from the feet to the thighs, followed by gentle work on the abdomen to stimulate deeper drainage.
  4. Arms, chest and face Drainage continues over the arms and chest, then the face, where it decongests the eyelids and the area around the eyes.
  5. Back to calm A few minutes of rest with the legs slightly raised, and a large glass of water to help the body eliminate.

Benefits

  • Lighter legs
  • Reduced swelling
  • Easier elimination
  • Brighter skin
  • Calmer nervous system

Good to know

Come lightly dressed and well hydrated, and avoid a heavy meal just before. The effects build up: a series of three to five sessions close together gives the clearest results. At the Spa, the hammam before drainage opens circulation further; the classic massage remains the better option if what you want is to relax the muscles. Not recommended with an infection or fever, venous thrombosis, or unstable heart or kidney conditions. If in doubt, ask your doctor before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the pressure so light?

Because lymphatic vessels lie just beneath the skin. Strong pressure would flatten them instead of stimulating them. It is the rhythm and direction of the strokes that make the treatment effective, not force.

What can I expect after a session?

A feeling of lightness in the legs, a more frequent need to urinate over the following hours, and sometimes real tiredness that evening. These are normal signs of elimination. Visible swelling usually eases after the very first session.

Does lymphatic drainage help with cellulite?

It helps reduce the water retention that makes cellulite more visible, but it will not remove it on its own. For more targeted work on the figure, the Studio offers thermo-reducing and draining body wraps, always combined with drainage.

Do the durations include the welcome?
