Thai massage is unlike any other treatment on our menu. You stay dressed, lying on a futon on the floor, and the therapist works with palms, thumbs, elbows and sometimes knees. There is no oil and no gliding: instead, rhythmic pressure along the body’s energy lines, the ‘sen’, combined with passive stretches that feel a little like being guided through a yoga session without any effort on your part.
The practice comes from Thailand and draws on Ayurvedic principles and acupressure. The aim is straightforward: get energy moving again, release deep-seated tension and restore a sense of balance between body and mind. We offer it in 60, 90 or 120 minutes at Izzy Spa and at Izzy Studio, our two addresses in Verbier.
Who is it for?
This is the massage for people who feel stiff: skiers after several days on the Verbier slopes, hikers, anyone who spends long hours at a desk. It also suits guests who would rather not have oil on their skin or undress. If you want focused muscle work rather than stretching, the sports & deep tissue massage is the better fit; for something gentler, the classic relaxing massage remains a safe choice.
How the treatment goes
- Welcome and consultation We take a few minutes to talk about your day, any sensitive areas and how flexible you feel. You keep your clothes on; we can lend you loose-fitting garments if needed.
- Pressure and acupressure Lying on the futon, you receive slow, rhythmic pressure from the feet up to the head, along the energy lines. The therapist uses body weight rather than force.
- Assisted stretching Legs, hips, back and shoulders are taken through passive stretches, always within your comfort range. You breathe; the therapist follows.
- Upper body work Seated, the session finishes with the neck, shoulders, scalp and face. This is often the moment when the mind finally goes quiet.
- Back to calm You rest for a few moments, then get up slowly. A glass of water or herbal tea is waiting. Plan to walk out at an easy pace.

Good to know
Wear or bring soft, loose clothing such as leggings and a t-shirt. Avoid a heavy meal in the two hours before. At the Spa, a spell in the sauna or hammam beforehand warms the muscles and makes the stretches more comfortable. The treatment is also available as a gift card. Not recommended after a recent injury, with advanced osteoporosis, during pregnancy or shortly after surgery. If in doubt, mention it when you book.
Frequently asked questions
No. Thai massage is performed fully clothed and without oil. Come in soft, comfortable clothing, or ask us for a set when you arrive.
It can feel intense at times, especially on very tight areas, but it should never hurt. Just say so and the therapist will adjust the pressure and the depth of the stretches.
Sixty minutes covers the whole body without lingering. With 90 minutes, the therapist can spend proper time on the legs and back. The 120-minute session is the full ritual as practised in Thailand, with thorough work on every area.
The durations shown are the actual treatment time. Allow about ten extra minutes for the welcome and for changing.
